Section 4

For my project, I will create the front page of the sports section for the USA Today paper. However, the main focus and article from the paper will be an analysis on why college football should have a playoff system. It currently relies on the BCS computer program to decide who the number 1 team in America is, but this is a horrible process. The side articles will include current topics of the sports world. I will be using ESPN, USA Today sports section, and Sportscenter to pull my articles from. This project contains an abundance of rhetoric, and will be tied in to the main article.

Residence Halls-
I think that the author was very sarcastic and wrongfully harsh when it came to describing residence halls. First of all, she complains that they gave false advertisement on the posters. Did she really think that they would advertise by saying, "Come live in a dorm, it sucks!" They obviously are going to try to persuade the students to live in by saying its a great choice. The topics that she discusses are actually correct. The way she describes the waiting for showers and the problems with the roommates are things that most freshman go through. However the intense amount of complaining is a little hard to take.

Walk on by

This passage by Mr. Staples was a very moving and powerful piece of writing. I have always known that racism is a sever topic in modern day America, but hearing first hand stories magnifies the problem. With that being said, I feel that blacks are not completely innocent for the stereotypes that are brought upon them. For instance, look at rap; it is a form of music that 98% of singers are black, and 98% of what gets expressed through rap is drugs and murder. I will admit, I am a big fan of rap, however they infiltrate the media with these songs, and listeners hear the topics so much that they begin to get use to it. I still do not appreciate what this country has become, where walking across the street is the action when spotting a man of a different color. I'm just saying not only do whites have to make a change, so do blacks.

Rhetoric topic

For my rhetoric paper i will either be discussing the speech from Gordon Gekko in Wall Street about the paper company, or I will be discussing the 2008 presidential debate. I know exactly how I could analyze the Wall Street one, but my only fear is that I wont end up with 4 pages on it. Please leave some feedback on what I should do. Thanks

Fallacy

The Truth commercial titled "positive" contains multiple fallacies in its duration. Truth definitely implements the "Poison the Well" tactic, in which it slanders the cigarette companies by calling them liars and mocking them. In the commercial, they use big body guards to represent the companies and have them singing about how they lied to America. They also use the "Post Hoc" tactic by singing that if you smoke you will end up having cancer in your bladder and lose your life.

Mr. Wyatt,
English is probably my favorite subject because of writing. I love writing when I am given the chance to be creative and write about what I want to write, however I find it very boring when I am forced to write about a subject that is not too interesting. The piece of writing that I have most enjoyed was my college essay, which is something that I am very proud of. My sophomore teacher Mr. Icsman made writing fascinating to me, and was really the first teacher that told me I was a very creative writer. I don't believe that I am incredibly gifted at it, but feel that when the topic is right i can bust out a good essay. I believe English classes are extremely useful, and I find myself using what I have learned in many facets of life. For instance, when writing 'thank-you notes' or emails to my past teachers letting them know I survived my first weekend of college, I find myself using the same tactics thats was taught to me in Mr. Icsman's class. I am not a big poem writer, but I do enjoy writing letters and facebook comments.

Harris Dining Hall- (1st description)
-Intense smell of grilled sandwiches mixed with the potato soup that looks to be a couple days old
-A hallway that would comfortably suit 20 has 60 kids stacked in ready for todays lunch
-Friendly servants always with a smile serving food that has a 50/50 chance of it being edible.
-Swarms of freshman sitting together at tables, with the occasional loner eating fast to get to class.
-A variety of tables: The all girls table probably gossiping, the all guys table which is probably terribly raunchy, and then our table; 4 guys and 4 girls.
-The look of worry on most kids faces which can be attributed to a strict professor.
-Some dressed up for the occasion, and some barely dressed
-The shoe of choice for guys= sperry topsiders
-The shoe of choice for girls= sandals
-Every table has at least one member eating a tray-full, and one thats not eating.
-A constant traffic coming in and out
-A clash of noises combine from each table to equate to one loud hectic cry.
-A lot of laughter with every 6 seconds an, "Oh my God" thrown in the mix.

(2nd Description)
-Its 9:30 and the breakfast crowd is pretty much dissinegrated by now
-The fruit bar is a mess with grapes everywhere
-Some tables are trashed, others looking like they have been untouched.
-The noise level is down tremendously
-Many kids are too occupied with class and refuse to sit down
